"Eclectic, crazy, moody, intense, personal, funny, faltering and finally formidable… the music cooperative Bloom was all this in yet another mini triumph for The Wardrobe Theatre, who seem hardwired to find and reveal risk-taking artists in this wonderfully creative city." Stagetalk Magazine
Bloom is a collective of musicians and friends from an experimental corner of Bristol’s buzzing music scene. Their combined musical projects are varied in genre yet consistently progressive, playful and enchanting. Bloom Presents… brings you otherworldly evenings of their hypnotic sounds in an intimate hand-crafted setting.
Described beautifully by Shabaka Hutchings as ‘One of my definite favourite saxophone players from this country… one of the most distinctive and personalised sounds on the instrument that I’ve heard in a very very long time’ and cherished by the alternative BBC program. Alabaster is also a poet, a performer and an alround entertainer. He plays with worlds in the same way he bends the harmonious melodies of his instrument. His recent political contribution ‘Buy It’ went viral on Facebook, receiving over a thousand views.
ICHI, from Nagoya in Japan, takes the notion of a one-man band to new limits, combining his quirky handmade instrument inventions (Stilt-bass, Kalilaphone, Balloon-pipes, Hatbox-pedal-drum, Tapumpet, Percussion-shoes & Hat-trick-hat) with steel-drum, ping-pong balls, toys & everyday objects all in the space of one short set. Having toured as a solo artist in Japan, the UK and Europe, playing at festivals including Greenman, End of the Road, Boomtown, In The Woods, Great Escape, Camp Bestival and Glastonbury, ICHI has been making waves and it`s unsurprising he is championed by the likes of David Byrne, BBC 6`s Steve Lamacq, Gideon Coe, Tom Ravenscroft & Lauren Laverne, and Deerhoof who invited him to play with them in New York at their event The Wordless Music Series.
Spindle Ensemble are an experimental instrumental quartet from Bristol's music collective 'Bloom'. They perform original compositions by Daniel Inzani that hover cinematically somewhere between jazz, folk and classical idioms, taking inspiration from artists such as Moondog, Eric Satie and Mulatu Astatke. They will be releasing their debut album, Bea, as a luxury gatefold vinyl edition via new label Adderwell Music in late 2017.
'Beautiful sounds, definitely a band to watch'
Fiona Talkington, Late Junction, BBC Radio 3
'(Spindle Ensemble) crafted beautifully layered landscapes of sound with enormous empathy for each other’s playing. Following their own highly original musical pathways'
