Sharp Teeth presents The May Edition at The Wardrobe Theatre
See event details

A event held at The Wardrobe Theatre on Sunday 29th May. The event starts at 19:30pm.

This May we have the finest of the fine for you. If Frank Sinatra had been a Sharp Teeth attendee he might have crooned “It was a very fine line-up” before popping down to watch these guys.

In the poetry corner we’ve got Sam Boarer, a Bristol-based poet whose wit and intelligence will charm you and tickle your funny bone.

In the storytelling corner we have Naomi Smyth, a hilariously dry performer, we’ve seen her whip a crowd into a frenzy of giggles with just an awkward blink. She’s performing a new story she’s been developing and we can’t wait to hear it.

In the music corner we have Ellie Showering, an incredibly talented singer and musician, you might have seen (or heard) her in Verity Standen’s HUG, Symphony or Mmm Hmmm. She can hit notes that we can’t even pretend to hit.

In our Theatre corner is a work-in-progress showing of A Mermaid Walk by Peter Baker, Peter is a brilliant performer whom you might have seen in hugely popular Closer Each Day as Pablo. We can’t wait to see what he’s created.

Remember, we’re a Pay What You Decide event, so no matter how poor or well-endowed in the bank department you are, you can come down and enjoy the show. We usually recommend a minimum donation of £4, but all the money goes towards the artists and the theatre, so please do give generously. Also there is no free cash point nearby and please be aware from now on we start at 7:30pm, not 8.

Sam Boarer
A mix of vagina talk and social inabilities, Sam Boarer will woo you, make you feel uncomfortable but will never leave you unsatisfied. She presents self-deprecating humour, taking serious subjects and turning them on their head to reveal the absurdity of a situation. An incredibly honest account of what it's like to be a real grown up single woman.

"Carefully constructed metaphors and imagery. Never failing to say something you've never heard before and make you laugh, Sam's set is guaranteed entertainment."
Raise The Bar

"She'll shock you into laughter with her brutal honesty and refreshing take on life in general."
Hammer and Tongue Bristol

Naomi Smyth
Emma’s a loner, living in the woods and avoiding the bustle of the village. A man arrives who seems as isolated as she is. But their efforts to connect are corrupted by shame, fear and pride.
An original story told with narration, character comedy and movement by Naomi Smythe. Naomi is a member of Beyond The Ridiculous, a company making improvised solo shows.

Ellie Showering
Ellie Showering is a Bristol based singer, performer and composer. She has been writing songs for many years, in a variety of styles, and is delighted to be sharing a selection of her original compositions and arrangements with Sharp Teeth. www.ellieshowering.com

“One of the most inspired productions in recent years... Beautifully haunting music from Ellie Showering... It is simply a sensory feast.”
Theatre Bath (about Insane Root's Macbeth for which Ellie wrote the music)

A Mermaid Walk
1986, Thatcher opens the M25, GCSEs are introduced and “Splash” is out on VHS. The summer before starting at a new school, Jamie can’t sleep. A second-hand meditation record invites him “on a Mermaid Walk” and he follows, no matter where it leads him.

An extract from a spoken word piece about obsession, fantasy and identity, this is the first performance of this piece and is a work-in-progress by Peter Baker. Peter Baker is a regular in The Wardrobe Theatre’s Closer Each Day and Murder She Didn’t Write.
