event
held at The Wardrobe Theatre
on Thursday 13th April. The event starts at 19:00.
Join us for Queer KIOTA, showcasing LGBTQ+ Black and People of Colour (BPOC) creatives from various artistic disciplines. Hosted by Aisha Ali, expect a fantastic evening of performance followed by networking opportunities. Details of the performers will be announced on here and our social media platforms closer to the time.
Kiota aims to tackle decolonisation of arts spaces in Bristol, recognising that colonialists created the social construct of race and racial hierarchy to be able to control and exploit colonies around the world and that this still affects how we view the world, ourselves and therefore how we interact with the spaces we encounter. We want to do this in a joyful way to celebrate the diverse voices that exist in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
Kiota are committed to creating original collaborations between BPOC artists of different disciplines who wouldn’t ordinarily have the chance to work together to see how their artistic practise evolves. Swahili for “nest” Kiota are building our namesake to offer an opportunity to share, learn and network with other BPOC creatives whether emerging, established or anything in between! So, if that describes you or you simply want to enjoy the variety of wonderful performances, come along! The performers will all be BPOC but ALL ARE WELCOME TO WATCH!
“Eye-opening, entertaining and thought-provoking.”
