Bristol Surf Cinema presents a special collaboration event with Bristol Girls Surf Club at The Wave Bristol.
Join us for an intimate screening of LENA, a 25-minute documentary following Lena Kemna’s first winter surfing Nazaré, home to the biggest waves on Earth. Lena is a German big-wave surfer and freediver who is travelling to Bristol especially for this event.
Nazaré is not just big. It is unforgiving, powerful and deeply psychological. In this film, Lena shares the highs, the wipeouts, the fear, the preparation and the resilience required to paddle out into one of the most extreme surf line-ups in the world for the very first time.
More than just a big-wave story, LENA explores what it means to take up space in heavy water and the mindset required to survive it.
Lena is also a trained freediver, and her breath-hold training plays a vital role in her big-wave preparation. Following the screening, she will join us live for a 45-minute Q&A discussing:
• Surfing Nazaré as a first-season athlete
• Mental preparation and overcoming fear
• Being a woman in high-performance surf environments
• The crossover between freediving and big-wave survival
• Audience questions
We’re buzzing to host this at The Wave and bring something a little different to our Bristol surf community. Proper stories, shared in the right setting.
If you haven’t been to The Wave before, please allow a bit of extra time for the walk from the car park to the clubhouse.
