‘An exceptional new talent’ THE HERALD ★★★★★

Bolton born Sophie grew up in and out of the Care System. At 23, the State unexpectedly handed over all of her personal records. In her deeply personal show, this very special rising star explores who she is today through the eyes of the numerous experts that assessed her growing up…

‘Wise, confessional and bloody funny’ THE LIST

Throughout her unconventional childhood and then adolescence, Sophie was often considered ‘a problem child’. In fact she rarely went to school until she was seven years old, before going on to live with various family members, foster parents and housing associations for homeless young people. In this bold show, Sophie guides us through the genuine records that reveal key incidents in her life, retelling each moment in her own unique way.

‘An exciting new force in British comedy’ LONDON IS FUNNY ★★★★

As an adult Sophie has rarely managed to play by the rules. She tells us how mental health issues are rife in her family and talks openly about her mother’s addiction to heroin, resulting in drug induced schizophrenia. She deftly guides the audience through the hereditary implications of psychosis and schizophrenia and she discusses how this effects who she is today. Both engagingly honest and darkly optimistic, each moment is delivered through Sophie’s razor sharp and totally authentic comic voice. A force to be reckoned with, she exudes confidence and northern charm.

"…One thing that made her stand out was the authenticity of the material” CHORTLE

Having only started performing stand up in 2015, Sophie Willan’s refreshing comic style has already taken her to numerous competition finals including the prestigious Amused Moose Laugh Off and The Magners New Act, where she was crowned Winner. To top off a whirlwind 12 months, Sophie is the new resident comic on the Up Late With Rylan show for Channel 5 every Wednesday at 11pm in addition she also provided tour support for both Luisa Omielan and Dane Baptiste. Hotly in demand, Sophie has also recently signed a first look deal with BBC Comedy to create, write and star in her own scripted project and has been named a Developed With Artist in Residence at The Lowry Theatre, Salford. She is also set to make a number of upcoming TV and Radio appearances including the comedy series ‘The Funny Thing About...’ for Channel 5.

"vivid, gripping and very funny” BEYOND THE JOKE ★★★★
