A event on Wednesday 18th March. The event starts at 19:15.
We're heading out after dark to see what's stirring in the ponds at Three Brooks — newts performing their courtship displays underwater, frogs and toads migrating to spawn, and (weather permitting) aquatic invertebrates going about their nocturnal business. There'll be nocturnal birds too.
This is a relaxed, torch-lit wander around the ponds and reedbeds led by a licensed ecologist with 7+ years' experience. Expect confident species IDs, behaviour and migration explained as you watch it happen, and genuinely beautiful night-time nature scenes.
We observe only — no handling of any animals, minimal disturbance.
⸻ Plan
•7:00pm meet at the main entrance (exact pin sent after sign-up)
•Steady loop around the ponds with plenty of stops to watch and listen
•Optional pub/café warm-down afterwards
⸻ What to bring
•Sturdy boots — it will be muddy
•Torch or head torch (red light mode is ideal for wildlife watching)
•Layers and waterproofs
•Water or a flask
•No dogs please — the ponds are sensitive habitat
⸻ Access
Mostly flat paths, but can be slippery and uneven in places. Waterproof trousers recommended if you have them.
