A
clubnight
held at Timbuk2
on Friday 15th April. The event starts at 20:00.
3 years in the game. Big up all the gang who've played, raved and misbehaved with us so far - it's been a blast. To celebrate the landmark we're flying in a DJ and producer who's been at the top of our'to book' list for a long time. A DJ and producer who pioneered the Ghetto Tech genre and is world-renowned for his mind-blowing turntablist skills. Making his Bristol debut live and direct from Detroit, USA we're proud to present - DJ GODFATHER.
Considered the founding father of the Ghetto Tech genre, Brian Jefferies aka DJ Godfather is a bona fide Detroit legend. A DJ who began his career at the tender age of 15, playing nightclubs and after-hours parties all over the city, he gained quick notoriety for his track selection, turntable dexterity and production skills. Fusing the Detroit techno sound with the explicit lyrics and drum patterns of Miami Bass a new genre was born - Ghetto Tech.
Alongside partners DJ Dick and Brian Gillespie, Godfather founded the hugely influential Twilight 76 label as an output for his productions, and 3 more seminal sub-labels soon followed - Databass Records, D.E.T. Only (an exclusive label with only 1000 copies of each release), and Juke Trax (dedicated to the Chicago style of Ghetto House and Juke music). With all four record labels combined, Godfather and his partners released over 130 vinyl and mix CD releases, selling over 500,000 units worldwide. Having also released over 500 digital songs and selling thousands of downloads, they decided to start their own online store, http://www.electrobounce.com, an outlet dedicated to promoting underground music such as Ghetto Tech, Juke, Electro, and Techno.
A DJ set from this man is simply unmissable - expert juggles and scratches, rapid-fire mixing and dirty, hard and fast ghetto beats, designed to make booties shake and feet ache.
