DJ Spindall is a london based drum n bass DJ specialising in the deeper side of the dnb spectrum. He started out at the tender age of 13 back in 1995 mixing jungle, drum n bass. He got his first play out aged 15 in 1997 at cambridge's Junction for a night called'Rubber soul', which was run by pete who runs the legendary Warning event @ the same venue. He switched to Garage music in 1998 after constant requests to play at parties and the opportunity to secure a residancy at a successful U18 event called'Pulse' (later Rhythm Nation). This led to a show on Mac fm (voted best uk garage station at the garage awards in 1999 & 2000) amongst others and play outs at massive events such as'Exposure' & 'Underground explosion' @ the Collosseum (vauxhall). After a 4 yr break from DJing spindall returned to drum n bass in 2005 and secured radio shows on icecold fm & http://www.Lifefm.co.uk in Nov' 2006. Since his return to Dj-ing Spindall has played for promoters such as, Moondance, History of Dance, Son of Dance,Knowledge magazines'Bar knowledge', Essence of chi and many others. 2008 saw Spindall start up his own night (Nurtured Beatz) as well co producing his first tracks with up n coming producer Diamond Eye, the duo had their first collab release out on Danger chamber digital in Jan 2011 titled"Whispers EP".
Spindall hooked up with RudeFM colleague DJ Kalm about the same time in the studio and they've had releases out on Extent VIP (Inhale /Streams) & Twisted Records (Parameters) a ltd white vinyl with DBR UK.
2013 saw Spindall & Kalm rebirth Nurtured Beatz as a record label and have released an EP from scene Legend Genotype (The Good Turned Ugly) & a Kalm & Carera EP (Kolectiv - late night vibes EP) already this year. The next release is due out on August 12th titled Gravis EP , a various artist project which features some hot rising talent which is currently getting heavy support from some of the top names in the industry , the title track coming from Kalm and Spindall themselves . Nurtured Beatz also return to the party scene this yr with a label launch at plan b Basement Brixton , on August 9th. Way back in 1998 Kalm set out making drum n bass with his first official release and remix for then Good Looking Recordings artist's Flying Fish on their own label not GLR, DJ Kalm developed a personal sound and style of his own. He had gained residencies at top London clubs and parties such as Home, The Blue Note, Movement and The Clinic and also founded his label Central Intelligence all by the age of 21. Kalm has DJ'ed everywhere from Switzerland to Paris; Portugal to Iceland; Miami to Los Angeles where he shared the decks with Goldie at the infamous Viper Room on Sunset Boulevard.
The world famous Homelands festival in England had DJ Kalm as its guest along with LTJ Bukem, Fabio, Krust and DJs Marky and Patife from Brazil. He made his debut at the Winter Music Conference 2001 in Miami at the Beat Camp party with Marcus Intalex, Calibre, Decoder and DMC world champion Craze. Kalm has not only made his mark DJ-ing, but in the studio as well, with his remix of Roni Size Reprezent's Dirty Beats (On Major label Universal) and the highly acclaimed Venus on Hospital Records Plastic Surgery Vol 2 compilation (and'Mirage' on PS4), just to mention a few.
DJ Kalm has established himself a fresh and innovative, well rounded producer. He developed a variety of styles with his tunes while keeping his signature vibe. Kalm's track entitled'Close Range' was included by Goldie on his'INCredible Sounds Of Drum & Bass' compilation cd on world famous SONY records.
His 12' release's on Bristol based label Tribe Records entitled'Sharkbite' & 'Spiral Vision' received glowing revues, and sold out on Drum n Bass Arena's online store. Kalm's other collaborative releases with Dynamite MC from Roni Size Reprezent, releases with Orgon Recordings (Breakbeat Science, NYC), and Hospital Records, all show different sides of his production. Kalm once a remixed for the hip-hop artist/rapper (MC) Skinnyman amongst other underground uk hip hop artist and dnb MC's. Other artist's have remixed Kalm's tracks like'Mirage' from Hospitals PS4 Comp including a mix from US producer and GLR/Westbay Recordings artist Submorphics.
Kalm has a LTD edition white vinyl in stores now with DJ Spindall (Rudefm/Nurtured Beats) on Twisted Music, and a 4 track EP on Directors Cut recordings D&B legend Ashatack & Tony Damage's own label. In the last year Kalm has also started a new collective under the name Kolectiv, which has the seen the 3 or 4 strong team release for new imprint Scientia Recordings, and after the success of the their ep entitled'The Carbon EP' they have gone on to release the track'Burn' currently out now on the various artists compilation called'The Alliance Ep' via Proximity Records one of the most prestigious digital labels for Drum & Bass. And in Febuary 2013 an EP from Kolectiv on Proximity entitled Trigonometry EP.
2013 is set to big a year, as further prestigious labels from within drum & bass signing more material from Kalm & the Kolectiv respectively. Antagonist , 23yrs old from Manchester has had a keen interest in music since being a child.
