Colin Dale is a true pioneer of techno and has been since the very beginning - Radio Presenter, DJ, Producer, Record Label Owner, DJ Agency Co-owner, and Promoter If you were to write down the perfect career path to success in the dance music industry it would read like Colin's real-life CV!

With a rich musical heritage Colin grew up influenced by the sounds of Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Funk and Disco. Even before he left school his friends included Fabio, Grooverider, Dave Angel, Jumping Jack Frost and Bryan Gee. When Colin discovered Techno he knew instantly that this sound would be his passion and that he needed to spread the word!

Rewind to the mid-80s and the birth of KISS FM - A pirate radio station illegally broadcasting hypnotic beats, bass and synths to a captivated audience; a new generation that would go on to start a revolution in dance music history. Colin hosted a show called'Abstrakt Dance' on KISS, a show that gave him the opportunity to educate listeners and promote this new Techno style. Abstrakt Dance ran for an astonishing 16 years and lead to Colin becoming a major player on the scene, a respected and knowledgeable DJ whose reputation grew and grew. Colin moved into promoting club nights around London, remixing, producing and releasing his own material and the rest is history.

It's fair to say that had it not been for Colin Dale we would not have the thriving Techno scene that we have in this country today! Now that truly is a legendary accomplishment and you can see why we are more than a little excited to have Colin come and play for us at WERK. Colin now spins a mixture of Techno, Minimal, Tech-House and Electro with the occasional classic from back in the day - We know that he is going to raise the bar when he performs, so make sure that you are a part of it.

As if that wasn't enough we are proud to announce that we have secured Rektchordz as well.

Rektchordz aka Jamie Smithson grew up in Cornwall but now resides right here in Bristol. Jay has had an obsession with music and its culture since the age of 11 and when he started DJing played many different styles of music. It was a natural progression that he followed in the footsteps of his brother Ben Smithson aka D-Ranged, and launched himself into the world of production.

Jamie quickly discovered a passion for Breaks and the breakbeat sound. In just a few years his tunes became world renowned within the international breakbeat community. He already has an army of releases under his Rektchordz moniker through many labels including Play Recordings, Manchester Underground Movement and U&A Recordings. One of the purveyors of the Tech-Funk scene, Jamie's tracks have gained support from artists such as Todd Edwards, Laurent Garnier, James Zabiela, Crookers, DJ Mag, AutoKratz, Nick Warren, Treasure Fingers, Radio One, KissFm and more.

He's toured throughout the USA & Europe and held residencies at Be-Massive (Prague), Vibrate (London) and The Drop (Bristol) amongst others. Not bad considering Jamie is only 28 years old!

But everything in the dance music industry evolves and progresses quickly, nothing is set in stone as genres merge and new sub genres are born. Times are changing, especially for Rektchordz as Jamie has decided to pursue a new musical direction, deeper, more uplifting and yet at times darker, a Garage and Bass influenced sound that is breaking through onto today's scene.

The new Rektchordz'house' sound is definitely on the money right now and the buzz surrounding Jay's new'Rising Up EP' just goes to prove that change is good. The influences are clear and from many different genres yet you can still hear Jay's breakbeat heritage in the background. Check out the EP and see exactly what we mean: http://www.beatport.com/release/rising-up-ep/1065022

We are delighted to have Rektchordz play for us at WERK and trust us when we say that he will take you on a musical trip to remember, you want cutting edge music? You got it!

In 1985 Colin was one of the key members of the pirate radio station Kiss FM and soon after left banking to pursue a career in music and the"Abstrakt Dance" radio show was born. For 16 years"Abstrakt Dance" was a ground-breaking show which quite simply bought Techno to the masses. Guests on the show included all the UR crew, Hawtin, Angel, Pullen, Garnier, Saunderson, Craig, May, Cox......the list goes on and on. The show was put on the internet in 1993 Colin became a household name in Techno circles Worldwide. It was the first ever Techno show to be transmitted live with visuals and it was revolutionary.

It was around this time that Colin teamed up with Brenda Russell and Colin Faver to do the"Deep Space" series of clubs in London which again saw the team take London's Techno scene to new highs. Other club nights that Colin has been involved in include Electric Boogie, Vapour Space, Deep and Jelly.
