Following on from the huge success of the first Hazy Days Music & Arts Festival in 2016, this years festival, HD17, will take place once again in the iconic home of Banksy's Dismaland, The Tropicana, on Weston-super-Mares seafront over the weekend of the 7-8th July 2017.
Hazy Days is proud to announce its first musical guests joining the 2017 line-up. Newton Faulkner, Fun Lovin Criminals, Reef, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and The Neville Staple Band are headlining for the festival, with 13 acts just announced.
Newton Faulkner is an English singer-songwriter known for his percussive style of guitar playing. Faulkner's 2007 album Hand Built By Robots topped the charts and went double platinum and he is currently working on his sixth studio album. Speaking of his new album Faulker comments; One of my main aims was to assemble a set of songs that really work for the later slots at festivals, he says. I wanted to make a record that tapped into the idea of a festival, where you hear all these different strands of music floating in and out of your head. I want to be up there as the sun is setting, and people are starting to let their hair down.Newton Faulkner will be headlining Friday night alongside a host of other acts.
Saturday 8th will be headlined by Fun Lovin Criminals. The band hails from New York City and have performed together for over 20 years. Their musical style is diverse ranging from hip hop, rock, blues, jazz and R&B to punk and funk. Best known for their song 'Scooby Snacks, the band have cemented themselves as a brilliant festival band playing at festivals including Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds, Isle of Wight and now HD17.
Reef are a West Country favourite with a large local following who have been performing together since 1993. The band have supported Paul Weller, The Rolling Stones and Soundgarden amongst others, most recently opening for Coldplay at Wembley Stadium.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor has been producing solo music from 2001 and is perhaps best known for her worldwide top 10 hit 'Murder on the Dancefloor'. Her musical style mixes mainstream pop, disco and 1980's electronic influence. She has just released a new album Familia which is her sixth studio album.
The Neville Staple Band is fronted by the 'Original Rude Boy, Neville Staple. He is a Jamaican-born singer who has influenced the world of Ska with his bands The Specials and Fun Boy Three as well as his own venture The Neville Staple Band. Playing on Saturday, guests can expect a mixture of iconic songs such as 'A Message for you Rudy' and 'Ghost Town'.
These headliners will be joined by 13 local and national acts who will complete this stellar line-up at The Tropicana for the second year of Hazy Days Festival. Tickets go on sale 2nd February.
