Events on Tuesday 22nd January

“Raised in Chicago by a radical economist and a social worker, Rachel Baiman was surrounded by social justice issues her entire life. “If I wanted to rebel against my parents I could have become a finance banker or a corporate lawyer” she says of her childhood. While her classmates went to church or temple on Sunday mornings, Baiman attended the Ethical Humanist Society of Greater Chicago, a non-religious community formed around discussions of morality and current events. “That was always a tough one to explain at school” she says with a laugh.”

“From their unassuming origins as a group of school friends drawn together by a shared passion for music to the global touring force (supporting The Cure and Editors at arenas and stadiums) they have quietly become, Scotland's The Twilight Sad’s ascent has been forged the old way with grit, graft and four exceptional studio albums. Now signed to Mogwai’s Rock Action Records, the bands fifth album does not disappoint and will certainly not disappoint fans of their previous works. It Won/t Be Like This All The Time was produced by the band and recorded in Devon, England and mixed by Greg Calbi (Arcade Fire, The National, Interpol) at Sterling Sound, New York.”

“Formed in Bristol with some of the best musical talent around, the Lewis Creaven band have gained a reputation as one of the hardest working bands on the scene, thanks to their non-stop gigging schedule and widespread popularity. The live show features classics from artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Robben Ford, Lenny Kravitz, Bad Company and many others, all done in a unique style and finesse. With two recordings already under their belt the band are hard at work on the third album of all original material.”

“Organised by Jack Calloway from the Jack Calloway Dance band, you are all welcomed for a night of 1930's gypsy jazz Bristol style. Additionally, we also have a Swing Dance class before the start of the jam session for a free swing dancing taster lesson. Suitable for everyone, we will show you some simple steps, that will allow you to dance the night away.”
