Join our multi-disciplinary guests for a “fishbowl” style conversation as we dive into the topic -
What does it mean to be queer in tech?
What does ‘good’ leadership mean?
How can under-represented groups thrive within and outside the traditional corporate structures of leadership
We’ll have four special guest speakers for this event:
1. Dan Kumar (they/them) - Delivery Manager at Hedgehog Labs
2. Paul Thomas (he/him) - Head of Engineering at CareScribe
Watch this space... 3 and 4 to be announced!
All backgrounds, skill-levels and disciplines are welcome to come along, we want to hear from you!

What is a fishbowl?
A fishbowl discussion is one where we seek to erase the distinction between the speakers and the audience. Typically, the panellists position themselves in the middle of a circle or group composed of speakers and audience members: as the ‘fish’ in the bowl! This format creates a more intimate atmosphere, takes the pressure off anyone who would like to ask a question/raise something, and invokes a more even community feel. No stages or microphones here!
See our friends at SR2’s fantastic fishbowl event that took place a few months ago for an idea of how this looks.

Allies welcome but please keep in mind the guidance below :)

This month’s event is open to anyone, but we remain a queer event - this means that we aim to be a safe space free of constraints of sexuality and gender (thanks to PLU for this wording!). We assume that all who attend are properly informed on LGBTQ+ communities and respect our code of conduct.
As always, please let us know if you have any access requirements or questions beforehand.

About QTB

Do you work with computers and want to meet other queer folk? Are you tired of designing apps and want to step away from Figma to meet your fellow LGBTQIA+ community? Or are you learning to code and want to hear from people in the industry? Come along and say hi!

Where

We'll be in the PM Studio -> walk past the cafe bar and turn right before the double doors, through a door into a corridor where the toilets are. Follow that corridor and there will be a doorbell to ring for the PM Studio (or ask a member of staff where the PM Studio is!)

Don't worry if you can't make it this time - we'll be running the event every third Tuesday of the month at the Watershed.

We are generously hosted by the PM Studio at the Watershed , here's a bit about them:

The Pervasive Media Studio hosts an international community of over 100 artists, companies, technologists, and academics exploring experience design and creative technology. We are a space for risk taking and early ideas; for the kind of projects and questions that inhabit the meeting points of art, technology, and society. Our projects span play, robotics, location-based media, food, connected objects, interactive documentary, new forms of performance and more. We have an open plan studio with a culture if generosity, curiosity, and interruptibility. We believe that by clustering people together from a broad range of backgrounds, with differing skills, experience, and opinions, all of our ideas become better.
