Sabrina Mahfouz is a British Egyptian multi award-winning poet, playwright and screenwriter. In late 2016 she released her debut full poetry collection How You Might Know Me with Outspoken Press, and her essay was featured in ‘Britain’s Favourite Book of 2016’ The Good Immigrant. She is a Sky Arts Academy Scholar for poetry, Leverhulme Playwright in Residence and Associate Artist at Bush Theatre, and her play Chef won a Fringe First Award at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe.
She is currently working with the V&A Museum, Royal Opera House, Saqi Books, Futures Theatre and Clean Break. Her 2016 plays are With a Little Bit of Luck (Paines Plough); Slug (nabokov); Battleface (Bush Theatre); Layla’s Room (Theatre Centre) and The Love I Feel Is Red (Tobacco Factory Theatres). Her TV short, Breaking the Code, was produced by BBC3 & BBC Drama earlier this year.
Sabrina’s work contains a huge range of writing both thematically and sstylistically, but often is used to combat social injustice and provide a voice for the voiceless and oppressed through her beautiful writing, endearing narratives and phenomenal performance – most definitely not an experience to be missed.
BEN NORRIS
@BenNorris7
Ben Norris is an actor, writer and spoken-word artist, and current writer-in-residence at Theatr Clwyd. He was 2013 UK All-Stars Poetry Slam champion and now appears at festivals and major venues around the country, including Latitude, Royal Albert Hall and Southbank Centre. His work has been broadcast across BBC radio, his debut short film for Channel 4 was shortlisted for a Royal Television Society Award, and his first solo show, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Family', won the IdeasTap Underbelly Award at last year's Edinburgh Fringe before touring the UK to huge acclaim. It has since been nominated for the Ted Hughes Award.
Ben's writing is interested in our dusty and difficult corners, in finding the bits that hurt and then prodding at them, part masseur part masochist. A prolific and diverse writer, Ben’s poetry covers a wide range of themes, shown through his awesome ‘Poem A Week’ (PAW) YouTube series over the past year, showcasing a new and topical poem each week.
