Nature Queerdos: Coastal forage at Weston-Super-Mare

A event on Saturday 13th April. The event starts at 13:00.

Nature Queerdos is a community group for LGBTQIA+ people in Bristol/South West with a passion for nature. We aim to create a collaborative and supportive environment to learn together how to ID plants, their edible and medicinal properties, as well as other creative potentials. We want to forage and create together, enhancing our wellbeing through nature and social connection, in the spirit of reciprocity with the gifts of the natural world.

This event will take place near Weston-Super-Mare where we will be exploring edible and medicinal plants of both headland and salt marsh landscapes. The exact location will be emailed after booking.

This time of year the headland will be bursting into leaf and flower, with over 25 medicinal plants and wildflowers, some of which we will brew into a tea. We’ll then descend to the uniquely bountiful salt marsh where we’ll id and harvest its salty and succulent delicacies before coming together to cook them over an open fire and make a pickle to take home.

Access:

- The walk to the headland is relatively short but uphill with a series of steps. We will be stopping frequently to id plants, and are always happy to slow down or take breaks for those with energy limited illnesses.
- If you need to sit frequently, it would be a good idea to bring a lightweight picnic blanket or bin bag.
- For our neurodivergent and mentally ill folks, we always want you to feel free to take space away from the group when needed.
- Unfortunately this event is not accessible for wheelchair users due to the incline, but we are actively working on finding more accessible foraging spots.

Travel: Under an hour's drive from Bristol, liftshares can be organised through our google doc. Email [email protected].

Entry requirements: no age restrictions (under 18s to be accompanied by an adult over 21yrs, 1:1 ratio)
