Legends of the Redlands: An Evening of Devonian Cider, Song, and Lore at Windmill Hill City Farm

A event on Thursday 23rd July. The event starts at 19:00.

Come one, come all, as legends Sandford Orchards bring their cider-soaked myths of Devon to Bristol. Expect world-class ciders, live folk song, storytelling, and a healthy serving of Westcountry mischief…

Our guide for the evening is Barny Butterfield, founder and head cider maker at Sandford Orchards. He’ll be taking us deep into Devon’s Redlands. These are lands wreathed in orchards, washed in apple juice, and home to the Old Creedy Valley Cider Works – the oldest working cider works in the UK. Together, we’ll taste six remarkable ciders, grown in deep red earth and made with centuries-old cidermaking tradition.

Make no mistake though! This is no ordinary cider tasting, because where there's Devonian cider, the old Devon magic follows close behind...

Joining Barny for the evening are Jim Causley — one of the UK’s leading folk musicians and a six-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee — and Bill Murray, raconteur and local menace from 'pon Ole Dartymoor.

As our merry rumbullion unfolds, they’ll lead us through the old county’s folklore. There will be storytelling and song, humour and hijinks, wit and wonder. Why do cidermakers fight the devil on bridges? Why do we fire shotguns through apple branches to ward off evil? And what is it about cider that carries so much of our land, memory, and magic?

Come and take your seat, raise a glass with us, an discover the magic of Devon's Redlands in the magical surroundings of Windmill Hill City Farm.
