free event - donations all go to the creation of creative spaces
A
event
on Thursday 3rd July. The event starts at 19:00.
Come down for a night of readings, music, comedy and anything else the community wants to perform. Throughout the night we will have set up a creative workshop table for prompt inspired creative works, poems, stories, drawings, however you want to express (bring you own mediums if you want). And if you create anything you want to share there is always a sign up board for the open mic on the night. Below are the event descriptions for each:
HORIZON OPEN MIC
This is a free and open space to come listen to the wonderful talent of Bristol and maybe even share your own.
This open mic was started by the Bristol Writers Network, so there should be plenty of poetry and stories throughout the night. But the open mic is open to all sorts of creativity and talent. Whether that is music, dance, performance, or even a tight comedy set.
We will take sign ups in advance. To do so, please grab one of the free tickets and you will receive a message with our contact details about signing up. There will also be a sign up sheet on the night, so no need to commit ahead of time! But we will prioritise early sign ups. Each performer has a 5 minute slot. You do not have to use the whole time, and don't worry too much about going a little over. But if you need more than 5 minutes just let us know in advance so we can schedule properly.
The open mic is hosted by Wiper and True Barrel Rooms in St Werburghs (not the Taproom in Old Market!!), our set up is a simple mic and PA system so any music will have to be acoustic or your own amp system provided. The open mic is hosted in partnership with Horizon Press.
CREATIVE WORKSHOP (WRITE DRUNK EDIT SOBER)
For writers of all levels of experience, whether you've never thought of writing before or a seasoned scrivener, this is a chance to do some writing in a friendly environment and meet others interested in playing around with words and writing form. Even if writing isn't your medium, if you want to be inspired by a huge range of prompts or just want a space to work with other creatives, you are very welcome.
This is a free event to offer something to the community and to make a fun space for creativity. If you would like to donate some form of ticket payment, the event is done in association with Horizon Press, so we invite guests to order a copy of the magazine to collect on the day of the event (link below or donate with ticket).
VENUE COPY - Horizon Issue 04
There will be writing prompts provided for a range of genres and styles, fun suggestions of different ways to use the prompts, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options at Wiper and True, St Werburghs.
