From synth pop to noisey grunge this line up is pretty special!
We are so frickin excited to be a part of HAVVK's 'Drawn Together Tour' which gather more female identifying and non-binary artists to give a more inclusive and diverse live music show.
This Punka Presents gig is a different kind of lineup for us mixing the sultry pop of Mauwe, the grunge fueled vocal beauty of HAVVK and the steely noise of our headline act Oh, The Guilt. The gig will take place on Friday 17th of May at Zed Alley, BS1 4UA.
Ruby Rawbone is on holiday for this gig so we have enlisted Sid Delirium from our Punka family to host this gig. We know she is gonna SLAY! :)
Tickets are £6 from Headfirst Bristol >>
Oh, The Guilt
“Oh, The Guilt are a noisy dream pop three-piece based in Bristol, UK. They weave ice-cold atmospherics, rousing crescendos and overwhelming volume into waves of swooning beauty.
The band are respectful of their musical lineage, but have a desire to move past their influences to create a darkly distinctive sound.
Recent performances on tours across the UK have seen Oh, The Guilt hone and refine their live show into something powerful and unmissable, with an undeniable intensity and chemistry shared by Elijah (vocals/guitar), Hannah (drums/samples) and Chris (vocals/guitar)
Grunge-fuelled indie via London, Galway, and Berlin.
“…powerful…” - Dork
“...a dreamlike sound that conjures up ethereal imagery.” - Wonderland
“…ear-pleasing webs of noise with powerful political ideas.” - The Line of Best Fit
“…biting musicality…” - Clash
“…waves of heavy percussion and intertwining riffs." - DIY
"...emotional..." - Stereogum
“…stunning…” - Noisey
“…simply sublime…” - The Line of Best Fit
With nods to Warpaint, Ian Sweet, and Sleater Kinney, HAVVK produce a haunting and dynamic sound that steers the listener from moments of immersive shoe-gaze to thrashing punk rock, all fronted by a soaring, bewitching vocal.
In addition to their own music, the band have also founded their label, Veta Records, working with acts such as Maria Kelly, DYVR, and Sive. In 2017, Julie Hawk co-founded SelfMade, a platform to explore DIY music in Ireland through performance, discussion, and art. She also produced an illustration series, Female Fronted Drawn Together, celebrating women in music.
Mauwe was formed out of a combination of serendipity and fate. The two members, Jay and Portia, had been in and around each other's lives for years, having played the same gig at the age of 15, worked in the same restaurant in Stratford Upon Avon, and coincidentally moved to Bristol around the same time to pursue music. After a chance encounter in a bar, they vowed to jam and formed Mauwe very quickly afterwards.
Whether you believe that everything happens for a reason, or just think that the world is a giant lottery draw, it is near impossible to argue that this amazing story of chance encounters hasn’t lead to something fresh, pure and exciting.
Their single 'That's All' has over 5 million hits on Spotify due to Portia's gorgeous vocals and it's longing lyrics. Their new single Balcony Dreams shows a new and exciting direction for the duo.
We are so happy that they are available to play this gig and they will be the perfect way to open this gig.
This will be a very special intimate gig.
Don't miss it! xx
