See event details

A gig held at Arnolfini on Thursday 19th March. The event starts at 19:30.

Punk/t Spatial is a new concert series by artists exploring spatial sound. Beyond the formality of academic research or constraints of standardised formats, it is a space for raw experimentation with a DIY ethos. This first event will feature performances from Bristol artists Nik Rawlings, Natalie Mamcarczyk and Duncan Speakman. Nik Rawlings Nik Rawlings is a counter Tenor vocalist, composer, artist often focussing on spatial works. They make work that considers experiences of networked presence, polymorphous bodies and vocal transformation. Situated between song, collective performance and dance, their practice explore the complex relational / spatial quality of voice through complex and expansive live processing, modal chant and operatic techniques. Nik has performed and installed works internationally at LUMA Westbau, Sonica Festival, Glasgow’s Pipe Factory, Trinity Center, IRCAM Forum, B’Sarya Alexandria and Skissernas Museum, also at Arnolfini and The Cube; while receiving radio plays on BBC 3’s Late Junction, NTS and Noods. Most recently they released work on the Goddezz compilation Enochia, and sang on exlRuth’s Accidental Meetings release Romeo’s Fall; recorded with double bassist Caius Williams during Somerset House’s Assembly Festival. https://ni-ku.net/ Natalie Mamcarczyk Natalia is a sound artist and musician working predominantly with Spatial Audio. Her work spans soundscape composition, transformed voices, drone and noise. She is influenced by 80s post Soviet synthwave. A long standing resident on Noods Radio, and with background in deep subwoofer sounds through her alias ‘Walya’, she will perform various textures and harmonies to be experimented on multichannel arrays, balancing between the gestural spatial movement and sonic power of low frequencies. https://www.nataliamamcarczyk.com/ Duncan Speakman Duncan is best known for his site specific audio experiences (winner of Best XR at London Film Festival 2021 and Special Jury Award at International Documentary Festival Amsterdam 2019). His live music performances tap into a more visceral sound world that combines heavily processed/prepared guitar with approaches from musique concréte and electroacoustic traditions. For this event he is exploring improvised spatial movement and how it can apply structural pressure to formless clouds of noise and tonality, building possible worlds that envelop the listener’s body. https://duncanspeakman.net
