OPENING | POP TEKTONISM: VULNERABLE FLUFFY MONSTER

— Arnolfini
A welcome party for an ageless, gender-fluid, snow-white sprawling beast that is taking over our Front Room.
time:18:00
price: Tickets Below Free E-Tickets

Information:

Join artist Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou ("Fishwife") and invited collaborator Lykourgos Porfyris (POP Tektonism) for a performative audio-visual narration of fairy tales dealing with hybridity, sexuality, vulnerability, trauma and radical tenderness.

POP Tektonism will tell the story of the white little thingy who is transformed into a Cockatoo parrot. The story explores sexuality, disability and the monster identity, through Tektonism’s personal experiences as a pansexual albino and half blind. Vulnerable Monsters will be told in four chapters, illustrated with drawings and songs inspired by friendship and radical tenderness, all performed atop Fluffy.

Fishwife will share the story of Fluffy and their friends, the Hairy Fairy, the Dragon Princess, the Pony, the little Mermaid…The creation of the fairy tales took place inside Fluffy Library's first incarnation in Atopos CVC, Athens - and the stories grow as they come to Arnolfini.

Vulnerable Fluffy Monsters is the official opening of Fluffy Library. A mysterious creature - Fluffy, known to scientists as flufiella chimaerica – that lives in libraries, eats books, and digests them into knowledge through its many fuzzy cavities is taking over our Front Room. Fluffy is the creation of visiting Greek artist Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou – marking her UK premiere in Arnolfini after a year’s residency at Athens’ ATOPOS cvc, curated by Artistic Director Vassilis Zidianakis.

POP Tektonism is Lykourgos Porfyris' sound art project where he is testing the aesthetics of “rock-star” lifestyles. With an emphasis in pop music, they present a vulnerable image of a “star”, which contradicts to the polished and empowered image of a rock-star. In their performances, they exhibit weakness, uncomfortableness, prone behavior and trauma. In their songs, they are celebrating disability, bisexual confusion and queer negativity.

Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou (b. 1994, Athens) is an artist whose work combines large-scale participatory installations with interactive performances and is deeply influenced by queer feminist dialogues. She explores the notion of playfulness as a political act and also as a tool to create alternative senses of desire, self-expression and co-existence. Her fluffy, intimate installations are safe spaces that embrace uncommon narratives and blur the boundaries between different ages and genders. Through collaborations, workshops for kids and fluffiness she is trying to connect art together with alternative pedagogy and activism.

Her work has been showcased at the 6th Biennale of Thessaloniki, the 10th Berlin Biennale “We don’t need another hero” in collaboration with Fabiana Faleiros at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, the National Opera of Greece. Her latest project “Fluffy Library”, commissioned by ATOPOS cvc, lasted for one year as part of ‘’UNESCO’s Athens 2018, World Book Capital".
