held at Arnolfini
on Wednesday 25th March. The event starts at 18:30.
Fine Arts UWE and Arnolfini present Sean Edwards, an Abergavenny-based artist who has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally.
Sean Edwards is known for his sculptural approach to the everyday, often beginning with elements that seem unrelated but are linked by autobiographical and cultural connections. These could range from a 1970s shopping centre, a Welsh quilting group, Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska, tabloid newspapers and sundry found materials. Representing Wales at the Venice Bienale in 2019, Edwards drew on his experiences of growing up on a council estate in 1980s Cardiff and created an installation includes sculpture, film, prints, quilts and a radio play, performed live daily my the artists mother, produced in partnership with National Theatre Wales.
Edwards has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at Network Aalst, Limoncello London ( both 2014), Chapter, Cardiff (2013), Kunstverein Freiurg (2012) and Spike Island (2011). Forthcoming solo exhibitions include Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool and Temple Bar Gallery Dublin (both 2020). In addition to his exhibiting practice Edwards also undertakes public artworks and is currently producing two new works in Cambridge and Brecon, Wales. Edwards graduated with an MA from the Slade School of Art in 2005, and currently lectures in Sculpture at Cardiff School of Art and Design.
