The Mechanical Animal Corporation in association with
Tobacco Factory Theatres and Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust present
DEATH & THE PLOUGHMAN
Originally written in Bohemia, 1401, Johannes von Saaz's scintillating dialogue was penned the day after he lost his wife in childbirth. Refusing to accept this fate, von Saaz and Death lock horns in an epic journey through despair, laughter and love, in this lyrical exploration of what it is to lose someone.
If Death appeared to us in 21st Century Britain, what form would it take? Inspired by the late medieval fascination with the Dance of Death, The Mechanical Animal Corporation has created a compelling, site-specific interpretation across the stunning 45-acre landscape and buildings of Arnos Vale Cemetery.
Directed by Tom Bailey (Finalist for JMK Award 2013 for emerging theatre directors) and designed by Chris Gylee (Idiot Child and Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory).
Illuminating the power of von Saaz's vision, this semi-promenade show is an unforgettable, tragicomic encounter with Death. Please bring warm clothing and appropriate footwear for uneven terrain.
