time:19:30

Information:

Folk-pop with a Celtic edge. Emotive lyrics & spellbinding stories from a place which time forgot but the heart remembers. Songs will be performed on an all acoustic line up of violins, lush vocals, banjo, charango, acoustic guitars, double bass, accordion & Celtic harp.

"Without doubt one of the albums of the year [2018]. All My Swim is surprising, never complacent. Just like the best music should be " Shire Folk

“A really fabulous band making glorious folk music” - Sam Bonham, BBC Introducing

"Ethereal acoustic stylings" - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

Faeland are a folk-inspired acoustic heart-pop quartet from Bristol & Stroud, UK. Fusing deep folk tradition with acoustic instrumentation, this new band bring their innovative & subtly experimental approach to contemporary folk music; all with a mystical Celtic twist.

The band's recently released debut album ‘All My Swim’, immediately gained much critical acclaim and fast became a favourite of BBC 6Music & BBC Introducing.

"Throughout, Faeland exhibit a soft, measured assurance in the performances and a rich, inviting warmth in the production. All My Swim is a debut that does far more than impress, it delights." - Folk Radio UK, 2018

"Beautiful" - Kathleen MacInnes , BBC Radio Scotland

"Sweet sumptuous folk music" - Richard Pitt, BBC South West

“A really fabulous band making glorious folk music” - Sam Bonham, BBC Introducing

“A very impressive debut...Highly recommended, fifty minutes of gentle, carefully-crafted quality sounds. It is an album to escape into and become part of; somehow it seems removed from the normal time stream….” Cambridge Music Reviews

"An album of subtleties and understatement, of deftly and lightly woven musical threads... worldly and often otherworldly. .. if this is not way up the [Top Albums of 2018] list then it will have been an unimaginably spectacular year for music." Dave Franklin, Dancing About Architecture

"Ethereal acoustic stylings" - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

"★★★★★★★ Bright, optimistic melodies" - Uncut Magazine

"Beautiful...modern folk songs underpinned with some classic writing" - Songwriting Magazine

"A collection of original songs that sit equally comfortably on the seats of tradition and innovation" - C. Elland, FolkWords

SEALIONWOMAN

Inspired by the selkies of Scottish folklore: water-dwelling beasts who morph from seal to human upon landing ashore. ‘Siren’ is the debut album by Sealionwoman: comprising a duo ofvocals, doublebass and electronics. The material on ‘Siren’ originally stemmed from a narrative live concert called ‘Selkie’, in whichspectres of folklore, electronic drone and contemporary dance were intertwined to form a trulyinnovative live performance. This was performed at Brighton Fringe Festival and VAULT Festivalin London.

Sealionwoman was formed by way of a fortuitous, chance meeting of Scottish-born jazz-influenced vocalist Kitty Whitelaw and double bass player Tye McGivern. The stripped-down duo line-up of Sealionwoman coalesced around Whitelaw’s rich and beguiling vocal and McGivern’s atmospherically inventive approach to his instrument. A defiantly uncategorisable sound was born, equally informed by melancholic soundscapes, torch-song transgressions and rapturous drama.

The Cafe is open this evening, last orders at 6.30pm
