Bring Down the Haus: Envoys launch with Chris Hunt at Bookhaus
See event details

A event held at Bookhaus on Friday 18th October. The event starts at 19:00.

This beautiful collection captures the oeuvre of a brilliant,
under-appreciated Bristol poet.
In this inaugural volume of selected poems, Envoys gathers the
breadth of Chris Hunt’s considerable body of work. Featuring
previously published poems alongside his post recent work, this
collection offers a wide-ranging overview of a distinguished writing
career. With lyric clarity, his poems explore moments of transition,
connection and kinship.
Chris Hunt is a poet in the mould of Carl Rakosi - busy early period,
three decade gap and then a return to writing at a later age. In his
twenties he had three volumes published and ran poetry groups at
Cambridge University and in Bristol, hosting the likes of Basil
Bunting, David Gascoyne, Michael McClure and Ed Dorn; he was one
of a generation of poets influenced by his tutor J H Prynne. Then life
got in the way until in 2013, cajoled by magazine editor Aidan
Semmens, he started to write again. This slim volume contains all
that he wanted to rescue from his younger days plus a selection of
his more recent work.
Small Press is a small poetry and experimental writing press that
produces beautiful, high-quality poetry chapbooks. Each chapbook
explores the interaction between form and content in print.

Chris will be reading his poems here at bookhaus. Tickets cost £6 and include a glass of wine or a soft drink.
