Bring Down the Haus: Poetry of the Beyond at Bookhaus
See event details

A event held at Bookhaus on Friday 21st April. The event starts at 19:00.

Join us for a night of poetry of exploring the space beyond borders. What happens when you reach the boundary and keep going?

We are delighted to have Sarah Fletcher in the Haus for the Launch of her debut collection “Plus Ultra”. Beyond power, beyond the sublime, beyond love, PLUS ULTRA begins where other poetry gives up. Sarah Fletcher’s dazzling debut collection pushes at the world, reaching towards the ‘beyond’ of its title poem to explore questions of power, romance, pain and the sublime. These poems challenge, play and press, but also carry an anxiety around borders.

Sarah Fletcher is an American-British writer currently researching a PhD at Aberystwyth on pain and language. Her poems have appeared in the White Review, Poetry London, Poetry Review and other publications. She has published three pamphlets: Kissing Angles (Dead Ink, 2015), Typhoid August (Poetry Business, 2018) and Caviar (Out-Spoken, 2022). PLUS ULTRA is her first book.

Also sharing some lovely poetry will be Caroline Stockford. She is a translator of Turkish poetry and literature into English and Welsh. She writes and performs poetry in English and Turkish and holds a Masters’ Degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University in the History of the Turkish Language.
