Bristol: Paintings by Peter Brown launch at Bookhaus
See event details

A event held at Bookhaus on Monday 1st December. The event starts at 18:00.

This stunning 108-page large-format gift hardback showcases over 70 full-colour reproductions of Bristol by renowned plein-air painter Peter Brown.

More than just a coffee table book, Bristol Paintings offers a rich visual and narrative experience, featuring Peter’s personal commentary, anecdotes, and insights alongside an illustrated map marking the exact locations where each piece was created.

Though Bristol is just a short distance from his hometown of Bath, Peter only recently became captivated by its dynamic energy. Beginning in Knowle, he worked his way through Totterdown, Bedminster, Southville, Hanham, Kingsdown, St Lawrence, Old Market, and beyond—assembling a striking body of work that captures the city’s essence.
Beyond Bristol’s iconic landmarks like the Avon Gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge, Peter’s paintings dive into the everyday rhythms of the city. From bustling high streets to quiet back alleys, playgrounds to parks, his work brims with life, movement, and atmosphere—painted entirely on location, never from photographs, in all seasons and weather.
Bristol Paintings is a companion to Peter’s acclaimed books on London and Bath and coincides with his first Bristol exhibition, as well as an exciting solo show in Manhattan later in 2025.

Peter will be at bookhaus to discuss his work and show a painting or two. Tickets cost £7 and include a glass of wine or a soft drink and £5 off the book. Presented by bookhaus.

Peter Brown, affectionately known as ‘Pete the Street’, is a highly regarded painter of street scenes and cityscapes. Working outdoors directly from his subject, he has won numerous awards and is a member of several prestigious art societies.

In 2023, a collection of Peter’s paintings featured in Banksy’s Cut & Run exhibition. Though closely associated with his hometown of Bath, he also paints in London, New York, Glasgow, and cities around the world. Most recently, he has been capturing Bristol’s streets for an exhibition and book in 2025.
