An Evening With the River Bride: Mrs Meg Avon at Bookhaus
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Gather round the strangest bride in Bristol for a discussion of river rights and a swim in the currents of language. Two years after her headline-grabbing union, activist Meg Avon returns home bearing My Avon, a poetic testament to confluence and the unruly ecologies of devotion."

A event held at Bookhaus on Tuesday 9th December. The event starts at 18:00.

In June 2023, Meg married our local river the Bristol Urban Avon. The wedding was not only to celebrate a loving relationship, but also to raise awareness about river pollution with a story of joy.
Two years on, the relationship is still going strong. Meg is pursuing a career as a writer and campaigner, and self-published her first poetry collection My Avon in February 2025.

She has toured the book to wild-swim communities around the UK and is now championing her work and the movement back in her hometown of Bristol.

An Evening With the River Bride will be an eclectic evening of poetry, storytelling and an opportunity to answer campaign queries on river rights.

Mrs Meg Avon will be joining us here at bookhaus. Tickets include a glass of wine or soft drink.
