Folklore of Trees: The fascinating stories behind nature’s guardians at Bookhaus
See event details

A event held at Bookhaus on Wednesday 11th March. The event starts at 18:00.

Trees don’t just grow—they speak. And The Folklore of Trees listens. This beautifully illustrated guide uncovers the myths, legends, and superstitions behind thirty-six iconic trees—from the Major Oak of Sherwood Forest to the ancient baobabs of Madagascar. Unlike other books in the genre, it’s shaped by the author’s personal connection to nature and creative vision, with a foreword by Chris Packham, one of Britain’s most respected naturalists and broadcasters. The author’s journey is as compelling as the trees hemselves. As a child, he often felt out of step with the classroom, but his curiosity about the natural world was boundless. He once hid a dead adder in his bedroom and filled a school shed with snails to shelter them from the rain. Trees became a quiet refuge—offering calm and clarity during times of emotional and mental strain. To now publish a book endorsed by his childhood hero, Chris Packham, is a full-circle moment that would have astonished his younger self. “Trees are grounding giants,” the author says. “They offer strength and reassurance in a world that can sometimes feel chaotic.” Aidan will be in conversation here at bookhaus. Tickets cost £7 and include a glass of wine or soft drink and £2 off the book. Presented by bookhaus.
