Klein / Aho Ssan / Penumbra at Bristol Beacon
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"A full bill of uncanny AV experimentalism as avant-R&B innovator Klein brings her tripped out free jazz gospel drone mutations along with Aho Ssan’s cinematic, glitch-distortions and spectral improv hypnotism courtesy of a new collaboration between Dali de Saint Paul and Maxwell Sterling. Essential FFO: Mica Levi, EP/64, KMRU, AD93."

Klein’s live shows are rare, always unpredictable and never to be missed. Aho Ssan brings recent album ‘Rhizomes’ to life with visual artist Sevi Iko Dømochevsky. And, first up, Dali de Saint Paul, Maxwell Sterling, Rebecca Salvadori and Charlie Hope’s new collaborative sound, video and light performance ‘Penumbra’.

Klein
Klein is an artist and composer living and working in London whose work often blurs the lines between fact and fiction. Her music releases, films and performances are often informed by urban mapping, surveillance, humour, hip hop, noise, identity and beyond.
likes: Soulja boy, nice people, trying new things, old BET, ice cream and monami entertainment.
dislikes: meanies and badly interfaced sites.
has shown at: New Cross Inn, Barbican, Galerie Buchholz, Moma PS1, Peckham Plex, my bedroom, etc

Aho Ssan
Paris-based Niamké Désiré made waves with latest album under the Aho Ssan moniker ‘Rhizomes’ which involved a huge list of contributors including Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid, clipping., Blackhaine and Nicolás Jaar. The recently-debuted ‘Rhizomes’ live show is an audiovisual collaboration with Barcelona based multidisciplinary artist Sevi Iko Dømochevsky.

Dali de Saint Paul
A relentless collaborator and improviser, Dali is the voice of searing industrial duo Harrga, female improvising ensemble Viridian, trio dark idl, supergroup Ondata Rossa, and the consistent element in her recently-concluded ‘self-exploding’ project EP/64.

Maxwell Sterling
Producer, composer and double bassist whose output spans regular collaborations with other musicians, visual artists, filmmakers and fashion designers. His music creates points of reference between precision sound synthesis and acoustic traditions, as heard on solo releases for The Death of Rave and AD93, and his 2022 EP with Martha Skye Murphy, Distance on Ground (American Dreams).

Charlie Hope
Creating installations and performances which use light and space along with elements like video and coding to generate sensory experiences, Charlie Hope has presented solo work and collaborations with other artists and musicians at galleries, clubs and public spaces across Europe.

Rebecca Salvadori
Working at the intersection of video art and documentary, Rebecca Salvadori’s film works are multifaceted portraits of moments, people and environments, moving between personal and transpersonal scales. Over the last 15 years she has consistently engaged with experimental music, exploring ways to connect the moving image with sound practices, live performance and alternative forms of storytelling.
