SAVE THE DATE. Get Qweird returns on Sunday 2nd July with a new venue: The Bristol Beacon. The House of Savalon and Bristol Beacon are partnering up to bring to you another Get Qweird artist residency, this time our artists in residence working collaboratively in the months prior to give you one fantastic show as part of Bristol Pride. We'll bring to you ten performance artists working across different forms: drag, clown, circus, experimental sh*t and music spliced together as a gorgeous cabaret with the finest music provided for us by the t4t album crew. Produced and Directed by Astro-Zenica and hosted by the magnificent Elektra Duboir we're beyond excited to share with you what our artists in residence have been working on over these last few months!
Pride is a protest and there is a deep heritage we wanted to acknowledge with the poster art for this one. We're also wanted to acknowledge the rich heritage of the queer scene and its evolution over the last few years and are delighted that Charley Williams will be erecting (yes erecting!) a photography archive for the occasion, some snap shots of her work over these years for you to riffle through.
PHAT's Security & Welfare team will be on hand to support us at the event. The first time they working at the Bristol Beacon which is incredible exciting for all of us!
We'll also have the t4t
Thanks @ksenia for the graphic design of the poster and also to @bristolpride who will be supporting us along the way.
T4T is a charity event series founded and directed by trans artist George Avill to platform trans and gender-diverse creatives. T4T is a celebration of the trans+ identities on stage and in the audience, they strive to create moments of safety and comfort in visibility whilst simultaneously engaging in important community action. Since T4T’s debut event on Trans Day of Visibility 2022 they have released a self-titled compilation album and platformed 44 different Trans+ creative practitioners with 100% of the profits going to trans and gender-diverse individuals’ healthcare crowdfunders- which currently stands at £5.7K. T4T is overjoyed to be closing the show by showcasing the musician behind track seven of the album, Bendy Wendy. Bendy Wendy is a DJ from Bristol that treats the decks much like a chef treats their dishes. Watch them conjure sounds from the aether and bathe in the unholy broth of queer dance music.
T4T will also be opening the show by once again platforming the brilliant works of ORDERLY ROOM. ORDERLY ROOM is the culmination of years of top-secret government research into what happens when at a key developmental and training stage, would-be military personnel are transplanted into a community of Marxist-Leninist transsexuals on tumblr. A decade on from initial exposure, this particular subject has disturbingly developed fat t!ts and broadly industrial DJing tendencies – audience members are advised to report additional observations to management, and to resist any induced urges to unionise their places of work.
