Elaine Mitchener/ Jules Reidy/ Lonnie Holley at Bristol Beacon
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"The last true original of outsider gospel, spiritualist folk blues and astral synth wonderment! Lonnie Holley heads an inspired and adventurous triple bill with Jules Reidy’s trance-like American dream-primitivism and Elaine Michener’s glossal vocal acrobatics. Essential FFO: Sun Ra, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Emeralds, Grouper, Diamanda Galás."

Doors: 20.00
Start: 20.15

A triple-header featuring Jules Reidy’s stretched out and subsumed dream pop, the open-form excursions of Lonnie Holley and his band, and a solo performance by vocalist, composer and visual artist Elaine Mitchener.

Lonnie Holley
US polymath Lonnie Holley has spent over forty years making art born of struggle and, perhaps more importantly, furious curiosity, which traverses multiple forms including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance, music, and filmmaking. His concerts are entirely improvised and always evolving, layered and informed by this living legacy of continuous praxis.

Jules Reidy
Hailing from Australia via Germany, Jules Reidy creates stretched out songforms for processed and acoustic instruments (especially guitars) that invoke American primitive folk, microtonal drone and unstable dream pop, and has released a string of excellent LPs like 2022’s ‘World in World’ and the hypnotic recent collection ‘Trances’.

Elaine Mitchener
British Afro-Caribbean vocalist, composer and movement artist Elaine Mitchener works in the space between contemporary and experimental music, free improvisation and visual art. She’s known for important solo and collaborative works at concerts and artspaces internationally, and in 2022 was awarded an MBE for Services to Music.

…………

Taking place from Thursday 25 - Sunday 28 April 2024, Bristol New Music is a city-wide festival of contemporary music and sound.
