Colston Hall and the Royal Academy of Music present this year's best young soloists in a series of bite sized lunchtime concerts. A perfect start to the afternoon.

Marciana Buta

Marciana Buta came over from Romania in 2001 to study in the UK on a full bursary at Wells Cathedral School. During her studies at Wells she won first prize inthe Mid Somerset Festival and performed as a soloist with Wells Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 she enrolled on the undergraduate course at the Royal Academy of Music on a full scholarship. From 1999-2001, she won the National Romanian Solo competition consecutively and, since from the age of seven, has been invited every year to give solo concerto appearances with the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra in Romania as well as appearances on National Radio and Television West. Marciana has toured Norway, Poland, Italy, Switzerland, China and Kazakhstan both as a soloist and as an orchestral member of the European Union Youth Orchestra, of which she has been a member for the past three years. As well as performing with the Shanghai Philharmonic and Malta Philharmonic, she has worked closely with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony and the London Symphony Orchestras, and is currently on trial for the co-Leader job with the Scottish Ballet.

Rebecca Herman

British cellist Rebecca Herman has performed as both soloist and chamber musician throughout the UK, Europe, and North America. Rebecca recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music (MA Distinction), where she studied with Josephine Knight, generously supported by the Academy's Ian Alexander Award, Stanley Picker Award, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Musicians Benevolent Fund. As recipient of the MBF's Eleanor Warren Award Rebecca is delighted to collaborate with Making Music. Other prizes include the Ida Carroll Scholarship and Bursary, the William Elkin Memorial Prize (RAM), the Sidney Griller Memorial Prize (RAM and 1st place in the May Mukle Virtuoso Cello Competition (RAM). Rebecca was recently awarded the 2012-13 Meaker Fellowship (solo cello) at the Royal Academy, and the 2012-14 Leverhulme Teaching Fellowship at Pro Corda.
