Hailu Mergia at Colston Hall Foyer
£15.26 incl. booking fee

A gig held at Bristol Beacon Foyer on Thursday 4th April. The event starts at 19:30.

Ethiopian jazz legend Hailu Mergia rose to fame in the 70s playing 12-hour concerts at the Addis Ababa Hilton hotel in Ethiopia. Now, “all these years later, Mergia is still a true original” (the Guardian) and still writes all his music in the back of his taxi cab during breaks playing improvised jazz melodies over endless syncopated drum loops. After a hiatus, Mergia released a new album, Lala Belu, in 2018 thanks to Awesome Tapes From Africa. The album is “a work of flawless and exquisite beauty” (all about jazz) and we can’t wait to see Mergia and his band here at Colston Hall.
