With a career spanning over five decades, Glasgow-born Jim Mullen is a certified titan of European jazz guitar. He is globally celebrated for his extraordinary, self-taught technique: eschewing the traditional plectrum, Mullen plays exclusively with the flesh of his thumb, creating a warm, deeply expressive tone that remains instantly recognisable.

During the 1970s and 80s, Mullen was at the vanguard of the British jazz-funk explosion, co-founding the legendary, chart-topping Morrissey–Mullen band alongside saxophonist Dick Morrissey. His genre-defying versatility has seen him share the stage and studio with an astonishing array of musical icons, including the Average White Band, Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express, Kokomo, Mose Allison, and Gene Harris.
