Ear Trumpet Music & Bristol Beacon Presents: The Olllam + Síomha .Standing Show at The Lantern, Bristol Beacon, Trenchyard St, BS15AR- All Ages (Under 18s to be accompanied by a responsible adult)

With a name aptly deriving from the old Irish for a grand master of a skill, the olllam is a Transatlantic collective of formidable talent, marrying virtuosity, Irish tradition, and Detroit’s post-rock psyche-sensibility. Their compositions are lush cyclical trance-like melodies, co-written by Belfast uilleann piper/whistle player John McSherry and his US protégé Tyler Duncan, set to the intricate, often complex, rhythms of master-drummer Michael Shimmin, underpinned by the phenomenal bass-playing genius of Joe Dart.

Their 2012 eponymous debut album is now considered a cult classic, winning the 2012 Indie Acoustic Music Award for Best Instrumental Album. Over the years the olllam live collective has featured various additional master musicians and collaborators, including Dart’s Vulfpeck bandmates Theo Katzman and Woody Goss. Since the release of 2022’s long-awaited follow-up album elllegy, which saw the olllam named as RTE Radio Best Group at that year’s Folk Awards, the band has featured Sean O’Meara on guitar and Joe Hettinga on keys. Ever experimental, the olllam also regularly collaborates with Irish singer-songwriter Siomha, who joins them for this show.

Independent Irish singer and guitarist Síomha (pronounced She-vah) dances the line between folk, jazz and neo-soul effortlessly taking audiences on an unexpected and unforgettable journey with her soulful melodies. Her debut album ‘Infinite Space’ - described by The Irish Times as “a seriously accomplished and self-confident debut” - is a collection of songs in both Irish and English. A kind of cosmic, folk-informed, jazz-tinged, post-pop - it was produced by GRAMMY-nominated Tyler Duncan and features an all-star lineup of musicians including Joe Dart (Vulfpeck), Louis Cato (Bobby McFerrin/ Snarky Puppy), Martin Atkinson Borrull (Toucan) and violinist Jeremy Kittel (Bela Fleck/ Chris Thile). Síomha’s voice is full of raw heart-felt experience. When listening to her, audiences are instantly moved to feel on the deepest level and come out more intimately connected to their own worlds.

Coming from a family steeped in music, Síomha grew up on a diet of musical greats with the sounds of jazz, trad, folk and soul creeping in and leaving an indelible mark on her musical tastes and influences. She started playing guitar at age 10 but it was later in her teens while attending high school in the south of France that she first took up jazz guitar after a chance encounter led to her learning from an Italian gypsy who taught her the manouche gypsy jazz style. The chords and sounds of jazz fascinated and inspired Síomha and she began to craft her own songs. https://eartrumpetmusic.co.uk
