A
clubnight
held at Cosies
on Friday 7th December. The event starts at 22:00.
Back in 2011 the musical landscape in Bristol was somewhat different to what it is today. The bass heavy sounds that had dominated the city for the last decade were giving way to House as ravers were filling the clubs dancing to US and European sounds.
At the beginning of that year Chris Farrell launched the Idle Hands shop, with a strong focus on House and Techno and a locally minded ethos. It was the idea of Rhythmic Theory to start a label dedicated to the music being made in this city.
In cahoots with Chris, 'Brstl' was launched with a 12" from local heroes October & Borai in the autumn of that year. Releases from Outboxx, Jay L and Samuel (now Ploy) soon followed. The label hosted the debut from Shanti Celeste who quickly came on board to help run the label.
It was only natural that a night should run alongside the label. The ethos of the night was the same as the label, you had to live in Bristol to play. We knew we had enough talent in this city to represent the label and the night, there was no need to reach further field as we had everything we needed on our doorstep
The night has proved to be a platform for up and coming DJs along the way and back in 2014 regular guest DJ’s Danielle and Daisy Moon came on board as residents.
Fast forward to 2018 and after many great years, a good looking back catalogue and some memorable parties, we feel like the work of Brstl is done.
We are all still pushing forward. Danielle has an increasingly busy DJ schedule in London and beyond, Daisy will have her first 12" out in 2019, Shanti is writing her autobiography, Chris is planning to run for mayor and Rhythmic Theory is plotting a concept album about his favourite European pastries.
For one last party we welcome back the founder Rhythmic Theory to play his debut live set, and Chris Farrell returns to DJ alongside residents Danielle and Daisy one final time. We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the artists who have contributed to the label and everyone who has played and partied at our nights. It’s been a gas.
