See event details

A clubnight held at Cosies on Wednesday 6th December. The event starts at 22:00pm.

University of Bristol Friends of Palestine Society present your favourite charity fundraiser Bristol to Bethlehem II. A night of music, poetry, dancing and laughter with some of Bristol's finest DJs and spoken word artists with all proceeds going to the Hoping Foundation, a unique and excellent charity that support young Palestinian refugees across the world. ????????????????????????

In 1948, amidst a series of massacres, 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled from their homes at the hands of militias during the creation of the state of Israel. This tragedy is known as the 'Nakba' (catastrophe), and has heralded decades of displacement, conflict and persecution. Israel has occupied the West Bank and Gaza, and annexed East Jerusalem since the July war of 1967, with this military occupation severely impacting every aspect of Palestinians' lives, while Palestinians in Gaza today have lived under a stifling blockade and constant military attacks for a decade. The Nakba is still lived by Palestinian refugee families today, many of whom are still denied their inalieanable right of return.

Hoping stands for Hope and Optimism for Palestinians in the Next Generation. The Hoping foundation supports projects for Palestinian refugees throughout the West Bank, Gaza and other countries, providing Palestinian children with opportunities that give them hope in the face of the brutal occupation. They provide grants to grassroots community associations working with young people in the refugee camps, working closely with local Palestinian volunteers at the heart of the camp communities. The projects they support give these children the opportunity to play, to learn, and to express themselves through art, photography, film, music, theatre, dance and sport. Recently it has been focusing on supporting Palestinian refugees in Syria. Hoping has a special alliance with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency to raise awareness in the UK about the urgent issue of Palestinian refugee children, with Palestinians as the worlds largest refugee population.
