Art over adversity - spirited transnational music in exile.
-
A CELEBRATION OF THE UNIVERSALITY OF MUSIC, WITH AN INSPIRATIONAL AND ADVENTUROUS ENSEMBLE OF REFUGEES AND ASYLUM-SEEKERS.
-
Brimming with passion, sophistication, and hope, this ambitious 'orchestra' of asylum seekers and refugees is rightly acclaimed for its dynamic live shows.
Each performance tests the melting points of Anatolian, Arabic, Afghani, African, Bangladeshi, Kurdish, Latin American, Persian, and Ukrainian music, resulting in a unique, rich fusion style and joyful and deeply moving music and song made with love and excitement.

Founded in 2022, the Dovetail Orchestra's main aim is to experiment, play, create and perform challenging new music that draws on a global music vocabulary. It drives artistic collaborations between cultures whose paths rarely cross, and gives much-needed exposure to musicians from under-represented cultures resident in the region. It provides a 'musical sanctuary and home'.
Supported by a professional ensemble, the Dovetail Orchestra's impressive programme is a reflection of the many musical identities present, each co-created piece bringing together musical ideas, memories and sounds from multitudinous homelands, authentic in the moment to each but transcending all.
'Music is about allowing people to enter a space of memory, of connecting with others and of joy.'
Jonathan James, founder
'Music caresses the human soul. It is an emotional necessity.'
Omer Akbar (Afghanistan)
Cotham Club: a brilliant, eclectic monthly live global music club with a passion for community at its core.
Music, with all its subtlety and spirit, has immense power to unite people. It is the universal language of mankind. The sounds of Africa, America, Eurasia, and Oceania have always found a home in Bristol, and there are few better examples of the city's cultural cross-pollination than Cotham Club, a celebration in sound of what unites rather than divides. Each month we showcase some of the most diverse and brilliant musicians from Bristol and beyond, linking audiences to great music and to each other.
'Community-focused gigs welcoming an array of global musicians and gig-goers
of all ages, genders, neurotypes, and ethnicities.'
