Self Help W/ Swanmeat + SHLUG at Exchange

A gig held at Exchange on Monday 17th February. The event starts at 19:30.

SELF HELP

Oxford quartet Self Help land their fuzzy punk ensemble in Bristol this February! Stopping by on their February UK tour at the Exchange basement to blow the ceiling off.. come down for a night of vibes and adrenaline with one of the most important bands coming out of Oxford's music scene.

They began as Din Twins in 2016, when guitarist and singer Danny met drummer Silke and realised a shared love for in-your-face rock and roll. The duo was soon joined by Lizzie on bass and Sean on guitar, who had also found refuge in the Oxford music scene. The fierce female rhythm section and sensitive boys on guitar soon started to make waves and attract the attention of local music hero Ronan Munro, BBC’s Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, Jon Hillcock and Dave Gilyeat, as well as blessed fans who turn up to every show.

Self Help have toured relentlessly across the UK and released three EPs. After spending two weeks in Grenoble, France collaborating with musicians from all over the world, Self Help toured in Austria in early 2019. They’ve shared stages with Shame, Squid, Goat Girl, whenyoung, The Murder Capital and Mclusky.

SWANMEAT

“Dirty bass, check. Pounding drums, check. Buzzsaw guitar, check. Shouty vocals, they’ve got it all.” - Melita Dennett, BBC Introducing in the South

Brighton based Swanmeat was formed in late October of 2018. The four-piece met at college, and, united by their shared love of rock music, theatricality, and stage antics, decided to put together a band.

Swanmeat has supported such bands as Gaffa Tape Sandy, WIVES, and Blackwaters on the local scene, and plan to continue paying their dues.

SHLUG

Shlug are a three piece from Cardiff and Bristol who pride themselves on their intense live shows. They combine honest lyrics with heavy tones to create a raw performance, which discuss topics such as toxic masculinity, self hate/love and self evaluation within songs like The Scent of Roy Keane and Baby Teef. Since their first in October, Shlug have been gigging in different areas around UK, managing to get a support slot for Pretty Vicious in London. They love beer. Please give them beer.
