held at Exchange

Philadelphia-based artist, poet, and musician, Camae Ayewa introduced the moniker of Moor Mother with her debut album Fetish Bones in 2016. The LP was described by Pitchfork as “deeply confrontational and affecting” – something which Moor Mother has built on with her 2017 follow-up ‘The Motionless Present’ and last year’s ‘Analog Fluids of Sonic Black Holes’. The latter is steeped in haunting slave narratives that are presented as dystopian allegory, where negro spirituals are flipped, remixed, and recaptured, only to be digitized into a symbiotic bio-morph program for the post-thumb drive age. Moor Mother embodies her punk roots but anchors them with a rich, connected earthiness.
Ages 16+ (Under 18 to be accompanied by Adults)
This is a standing show at Exchange, 72 – 73 Old Market, Bristol, BS2 0EJ
