Having gained a lot of attention as an established singer-songwriter, some of you may know AUGUST as the Creative Director and Founder of Bristol based vocal collective ‘Bass Choir’.
This year ever-evolving alternative soulstress AUGUST brings us closer to home through her project ‘Got Those Strings’. A lyrically potent and electronically fragmented body of work, AUGUST has personally expressed ‘Got Those Strings’ to be a direct commentary on “non-conformity and a refusal to accept the boundaries and stereotypes that are inflicted upon us daily”.
Featuring production from The 7 Arrows (aka Typesun), the 4-track EP is preceded by lead singles ‘Got Those Strings’ and 'You Raise Me', which has garnered immediate attention from BBC Music Introducing, with radio support from BCFM, Amazing Radio UK and US.
A futuristic yet intelligent minimalistic soul-leaning ode, integrating melodic bass undertones and an electronic approach with the naked balladry of the piano. AUGUST focuses her awe-inspiring vocal talents on a prominent use of thick atmospheric harmonies laced with haunting Soul R’n'B lead vocals, funnelling buckets of sparseness and unexpected musicality into the ears of the listener.
A sound described as ‘futuristic alternative soul’, listening and visual styles range from Aaliyah, MJ Cole, Portico Quartet and Kate Bush through to having fans that include Ashley Henry, Jenna G, Nomine and Roni Size.
The next chapter will see the forthcoming EP, an alternative soul-leaning project, set for release on October 20th. The project’s second preceding single titled “You Raise Me” is out now, as are the striking accompanying visuals.
