Re:HUMANise
In this time of rapid pivotal change, where legislation is struggling to keep up with technological advancement, and political leadership is yet to fully support basic human & more than human rights - we are needing to keep reminding ourselves + each other, how to stay human.
There is something deeply humanising about choral singing. Since the beginning of our history, humans have gathered to join voices. It is one of our oldest past-times, and our bodies’ evolution is designed for it. When we are surrounded by voices in synchrony, our cells remember a Palaeolithic age before iPhones and billionaires, when our greatest asset was our shared humanity - and we knew in our bones that our lives depended on taking care of one another.
Tonight Murmuration Choir shares a 1 hour choral sound bath concert, inspired by themes of what it means to be human. We shall immerse you in the healing sound of choral harmony, vocal sound scapes, ASMR, guided meditation, therapeutic instruments, original poetry by choir members, and contemporary arrangements of Bjork, Imogen Heap, Noah Cyrus, Spooky Men’s Chorale, Destiny’s Child, Olifur Arnolds, Singing Resistance Movement, Max Cooper and Alabaster DePlume.
Directed by Alexandra Koziol + Joe Howlette, arrangements by Isolde Lachlan, with live gong from Sula Mae, yoga nidra from Leni Harvey Rolfe and visual projections from Gavin Brockis.
Take a pause before the holiday chaos, and allow some time for the ‘deep rest’ that mid-winter calls for. You do not need to do anything but lie on a yoga mat and be surrounded by a warm cocoon of voices, in the beautiful setting of Trinity Centre's Fyfe Hall. Participants will be guided in and out of relaxation by Leni, and there will be an opportunity to join us in simple sound making to reawaken you, with renewed humanisation.
