Nick Ellis & Roy at Friendly Records

A gig held at Friendly Records on Thursday 9th December. The event starts at 19:30.

Friendly Records extends a warm Winter's welcome to the return of our friends, Nick Ellis & Roy, the travelling troubadours from Liverpool with a bundle of songs & spoken word.

Nick Ellis is a song man. A performer of 'streetscape narrative - noir'. His rhythmic finger picking has the steadiness of a seasoned busker and reaches back to the black & white early 60s of Davy Graham's guitar balladry. British acoustic song craft with a contemporary Americana expanse.

Nick's last album was 2018's wonderful Speakers' Corner for which MOJO awarded 4* and Louder Than War celebrated him as 'one of Liverpool's great singer-songwriters of the modern age'.

Roy is a storyteller. An observer of local culture, that of North Liverpool specifically, & the history in the everyday. Roy explores the relatable forms these take across society and one's own inner reflections.

His debut collection Algorithm Party was published by Rough Trade Books in 2020 of which they stated 'Roy’s eye is as keen as it is generous, presenting, in the great tradition of English realism, the real lives of people up against it in all sorts of ways, muddling through, trying to make the best of it'.
