See event details

A gig held at Friendly Records on Tuesday 14th June. The event starts at 19:30.

It's a great privilege to welcome Justin Adams & Mohamed Errebbaa to Friendly Records for a very special fundraising occasion for Bristol's Aid Box Community with support from Knud Stüwe & Ali Elmubarak.

Justin Adams needs little introduction; he has been Robert Plant's sideman on lead guitar since the early 2000s however it is his well travelled musical experiences from the early days of Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart to holding the producer anchor for groups such as Tinariwen, Rachid Taha & LoJo as well as releasing three brilliant albums as dynamic duo JUJU with Gambian griot Juldeh Camera alongside much more that make this so exciting for us. Justin is currently in rich form with two new projects; his duo with Mauro Durante strips down form to the essence of reverberating blues & the lamentful melodies of Southern Italy. Tonight however, he'll be exploring the deep trance power of the Gnawa & desert blues repertoire alongside Gnawa master Mohamed Errebbaa on Gimbri. Mohamed began performing with traditional Sufi brotherhoods in Rabat, Morocco at the age of ten and received the title of Maalem (master of the Gnawa tradition) at the age of 28. Bristol is very fortunate that Mohammed now resides here. It's a privilege to welcome such sensitive & driven, travelled & rich musicianship to Friendly Records.

Opening the evening will be the contemporary oud duo Knud Stüwe (Germany) & Ali Elmubarak (Sudan). As Nabra they perform a rich blend of Sudanese and Middle Eastern melodies with plenty of Taqsim (improvisations).

Knud and Ali started collaborating in 2015 when they met through an initiative of Bristol Refugee Rights and they have since become a well established act on the Bristol and Southwest music scene.

Aid Box Community formed in the camps of Northern France and has developed a supportive framework in Bristol that welcomes asylum seekers and refugees to the city; the creation of their central Hub has allowed them to reach over 500 vulnerable displaced people from 42 different countries.

With the Hub they are able to offer a social meeting place and issue essential provisions; further to that they run successful outreach groups building community and support with a host of activities, workshops & friendship.

All money will be going directly to ABC including - ticket, raffle, wage.

From 730pm.
