Judging from his resumé, trumpeter and flugelhorn player Gary Alesbrook likes to mix things up. He’s played on live shows and studio sessions for Kasabian, Noel Gallagher, Scissor Sisters, Rag N Bone Man and Tom Jones as well as movie, TV and computer game soundtracks. Each has proved a perfect setting for his solid, lyrical and warm sound.
“I always wanted to be session musician and I’m lucky to be able to do what I love”, he says of his musical career so far. Alesbrook, the eternal sideman, has moved front and centre with ‘Jazz in Movies’, his first solo album, set for release in June 2018.
It took 1 year to record ‘Jazz in Movies’, a process made more challenging by Alesbrook’s status as an popular sideman. Though he is able to jump genres, it’s jazz that drives his debut album.
“It took me a while to decide what kind of album I wanted to make. I’m driven by the idea of ‘swing.’ I love movie soundtracks and the link with some of the finest jazz standards, so this seemed like an obvious debut for me.”
Tonight he will be playing songs from the album with the fantastic vocalist Phil King, multi award winning pianist Dave Newton and the in demand rhythm section of Chris Jones and Matt Brown.
