Tonight's band is Dave Newton's fascinating Piano/Vibes Trio with the outstandingly talented Nat and Luke Steele. Anybody who was lucky enough to catch the trio's fabulous gig in February will not want to miss them on their return to Fringe Jazz.
One of the UK's most respected jazz pianist, DAVE NEWTON has been voted best Jazz Pianist in the British Jazz awards ten times and has played and recorded with "virtually everyone" including Martin Taylor, Alan Barnes, Art Themen, Don Weller, Scott Hamilton, Buddy De Franco, Carol Kidd, Marion Montgomery, Tina May, Annie Ross, Claire Martin, Stacey Kent and firm Fringe Jazz favourites the John Pearce & Dave Newton Band.
Based in London, bebop vibraphonist NAT STEELE is a young jazz player in the style of Milt Jackson and Cal Tjader. Nat takes a two mallet approach to improvisation, focusing on melodic interpretation and a great swing feel. Since his arrival on the scene, Nat has quickly gained a reputation as a talented musician, described by Clark Tracey as "one of the best vibes players this country has ever produced."
LUKE STEELE studied bass at the Guildhall School of music with Steve Watts, Dave Chamberlain and Simon Woolf. He is much in demand on the London jazz scene working with names as diverse as Bobby Wellins, Jim Mullen, Matt Wates, Dave Newton, Allison Neale, Mark Crooks, Mike Gorman, Graham Harvey, Craig Milverton and Paul Jones of Manfred Mann fame.
