An exciting line up which sees Nick Malcolm reunited with his good friend the formidable double bass player Olie Brice in a quartet that features Bristol drumming legend Tony Orrell and special guest the internationally renowned saxophone colossus Paul Dunmall. Expect an evening of heart-felt improvised music.
2018 has been a busy year for the Bristol based trumpet star Nick Malcolm always in demand as on both the local and National scenes this year has seen him developing and recording his new group JADE, playing local gigs with his Standards Quartet and touring with Eliza Carthy and now he launches a new improvisation platform the NICK MALCOLM & OLIE BRICE QUARTET. Up to 2015 Nick and Olie where bandmates in the Nick Malcolm Quartet with the pianist Alexander Hawkins and drummer Ric Yarborough releasing two critically acclaimed CD's 'Glimmer' (2012) and 'Beyond these voices' (2014). Both musicians have played with Tony Orrell on numerous occasions but never in the same band and the three creative improvisers were discussing forming a trio when someone had the ambitious idea of inviting Paul Dunmall. Olie Brice is a member of Dunmall's Brass Project and has played with him many times and Paul and Tony have been collaborators for over 30 years, but tonight will be the very first time Dunmall and Malcolm have performed on the same stage - a meeting of two generations of truly brilliant British improvisers - this is going to an interesting gig.
