For tonight Mirek has assembled a star-studded quintet with Denny Ilett (guitar), John Pearce (violin), Daan Temmink (piano), Will Harris (double Bass) and Mirek taking the lead on the Bandoneon. They will be performing the original but rarely performed electric quintet arrangements of Piazzolla - come and enjoy the complete suite of The Four Seasons and other memorable works including Libertango and Oblivion
ASTOR PANTALEON PIAZZOLLA was an Argentine Tango composer, Bandoneon player, and arranger who revolutionised the traditional tango into a new style termed Nuevo Tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music. A virtuoso bandoneonist, he performed his own compositions throughout the world appearing several times at the Montreal Jazz Festival. He lived for periods in New York and Paris as well as his native Argentina where he is considered as a 'National Treasure' with the International Airport in Mar del Plata and the main Music Conservatory in Buenos Aires both being named after him. In 1992, American music critic Stephen Holden described Piazzolla as "the world's foremost composer of tango music".
