A night of "Senjazz" which is a blend of Afro-Senegalese rhythms and melodies with Jazz. Ibou and the band played a great gig at the Fringe last Summer and now almost exactly a year later we're really pleased to invite them back. It's a truly international line-up led by the excellent Senegalese pianist and composer Ibou Tall with the French musicians Julien Alenda on sax and Guillaume Ottaviani on bass, British guitarist Martin Sean McConnell, and the exciting Italian drummer Paolo Adamo. Ibou Tall's music incorporates a thorough understanding of jazz 'standards' blended with his African routes. Over the years Ibou has performed at Central Park's Summer Stage in New York, the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, the Wurzburg African Festival in Germany, the Montreal Jazz Festival with Nder and Setsima, the "Festival d'ete de Quebec" in Canada, "Nuits d'Afrique festival" in Montreal, "Jeux de la Francophonie" in Ottawa, the Lavillette Jazz Festival in France, the New Morning Jazz Club in Paris, the Bercy Stadium in Paris, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Sphinx Festival in Belgium, the Oslo Groove Festival in Norway, the Pirineos Festival in Spain, The Music Meeting in Amsterdam, The London Barbican Festival, The Oye Festival in Liverpool and many other World Music events. Expect an evening of rich and rhythmic Afro Jazz fusion featuring original compositions and Ibou's own take on some well known tunes.
