Afon Sistema are incredibly excited to be hosting another fantastic Maracatu workshop with Mestre Adriano of Maracatu Cambinda Estrela here in Bristol.

Mestre Adriano is a talented musical director and performer, and an expert in the Afro-Brazilian rhythms of Maracatu and Coco. He has been leader and director of Cambinda Estrela for 16 years, with the Naçao itself being 91 years old. He also performs with Coco dos Pretos, one of Brazil's premier Coco groups. Both groups are celebrated for their representation of these traditions of music from the Northeastern state of Pernambuco, Brazil.

His breadth and wealth of knowledge and musicality makes him a fantastic teacher, and he is central to the communities involved in keeping maracatu thriving in his hometown of Recife.

Adriano has taught and performed across Brazil, Europe and beyond, and Bristol is honoured to welcome him back for what's guaranteed to be a fun and informative matacatu workshop!

This workshop will focus on the rhythms and songs of his Maracatu Nação. Some musical experience is preferred, but not essential. All instruments will be provided, so there's only the need to bring your lovely self!

We'll have a short break in the middle of the day, so bring snacks and hydration to keep yourself fuelled!
