SICK OF SARAH

'The women who make up this Minnesota quartet bow at the altar of riot grrls' days gone by while simultaneously thumbing their noses at scowling chick-rock clichs. The songs are as bracing as they are familiar' SPIN MAGAZINE

'It was an absolute treat touring with Sick Of Sarah. They are fun loving, open-hearted girls who play irresistible punk infused pop music with a passion that is truly contagious' SUSANNA HOFFS, THE BANGLES

American pop-punkers SICK OF SARAH begin their charge towards our shores with the release of their U.K. debut ep Overexposure through Adamant Records. Sick Of Sarah are an all-female band who manage to forge taut melodicism and killer hooks out of barbed-wire emotional potency, often in the same song. With influences ranging from Hsker D to Joan Jett, Sleater-Kinney to The Replacements. Sick Of Sarah bring an energetic and blended alternative pop-punk style that has listeners singing and thrashing along after the first chorus.

The all-female five-piece consisting of Abisha Uhl (lead vox, guitar), who first picked up a guitar at age 13 in Okinawa, Japan where she lived until she was 18 and moved to the US and subsequently became a mainstay on the Minneapolis music scene as a solo artist before becoming a founding member of SoS. Abisha was joined by Jamie Holm (bass, vox), who originally played with her older brother before joining forces with SoS when the band's bassist moved over to guitar. Katie Murphy (guitar, vox) was always involved in some type of musical endeavor growing up; she began teaching herself piano at 15 years of age and acoustic guitar when she was 16. Always looking to advance her skills, she picked up the electric guitar early on during the course of Sick Of Sarah's evolution, at the band's request, and has since found that flexibility and creativity are the keys to her performance, Jessie Farmer (guitar, vox), initially played bass in the band before switching over to guitar and co-writes many of SoS's songs. Last but not least the newest member of SoS Jessica Forsythe (drums) who was poached from her former band after supporting SoS.

Sick Of Sarah began the hard work recording at The Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas, a studio made famous for its indie-rock clientele such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Conor Oberst, Portugal The Man, Taking Back Sunday, and Trail of The Dead. 'We were able to just live, breath and sleep our new album 24/7, a luxury we didn't have our first time recording, ' says bassist Jamie Holm. Some of those lyrics were inspired by the rumors of ghosts haunting the studios and housing, pet raccoons, and mementos discarded by previous artists. According to Uhl, 'Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) left behind a piece of paper with the number of a therapist and masseuse in a dresser in our bedroom. '

SHE MAKES WAR

"Imagine appealingly grainy angst-pop la Blood Red Shoes shot through in leftfield with the conceptual imagination of someone like Melissa Auf der Maur, and you'll get somewhere close to She Makes War. " - Wears The Trousers

"a multi-instrumentalist with such an enchanting voice... " - Nemone, 6 Music

She Makes War is the solo project of Laura Kidd - multi-instrumentalist vocal chameleon (past collaborators include The Young Punx, Redroche, Michael Gray, Koolwah and Super Mal), filmmaker and video director, photographer, blogger, sometime session musician (previously for I Blame Coco, Tricky, Alex Parks and Lil' Chris) and strident purveyor of grungey dystopian gloom-pop.

Debut album"Disarm" was co-produced by Kidd and Myles Clarke (Belakiss, Sparkadia, Sneaker Pimps) and self released in September 2010, preceded by two singles - "Let This Be" and"I Am". The album was accompanied by four quirky handmade music videos directed/executive produced and edited by Kidd, starring a host of characters from zombie clowns to sleepy lions to intrepid penguins.

With personalised album packages turning up in towns and cities across the world, She Makes War promoted"Disarm" with a photo exhibition at art show Send Me A Postcard, Darling and a slew of London gigs including a coveted slot at Ladyfest 10 in November. She ended the year with a series of living room shows and slots at buzzy venues around the country on her"Winter War Megabus Tour", bringing the full force of SMW's one woman Telecaster-ukulele-vocal-looping extravaganza to small and large rooms alike. "Scared To Capsize" was also featured on BBC 6 Music.
